Media Advisory - Restructuring of lab services threatens communities

Community meeting on EORLA tomorrow (Thursday)

OTTAWA, June 25 /CNW Telbec/ - People need to take a closer look at the
changes being proposed for lab services in eastern Ontario, warns the Canadian
Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the union representing many of the
front-line workers in lab services throughout the health care system.
They can take that closer look at a community meeting on Thursday,
June 26:

WHAT: Community meeting on proposed lab services restructuring

WHEN: Thursday, June 26, 7:00 to 9:00 PM

WHERE: Knights of Columbus Hall, 260 McArthur Ave., Ottawa

The McGuinty government is restructuring the public health care system
through its "Local Health Integration Networks", or LHINs. The first service
to be affected in eastern Ontario is lab services.
The Champlain LHIN is planning to rationalize lab services at local
hospitals and push the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA)
into a partnership with US-owned Gamma Dynacare.
This will mean job losses, service reductions, loss of community control,
and more for-profit health services eroding the public system, warns CUPE
4000, the union representing workers at Ottawa-area hospitals.
