Media Advisory - Quebec based troops in Afghanistan: First flight set to arrive home

    VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Feb. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - The first group of
Canadian Forces (CF) members from the province of Quebec are set to arrive
home Tuesday following a rotation of over six months in Afghanistan, where
they worked to increase security and help in the country's reconstruction.
Media representatives are invited to come and meet the soldiers and the
families who have gathered to welcome them home.

    Place: Valcartier Garrison
    Date/time: Tuesday, February 5, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    In honour of their return, a convoy of police vehicles and light armoured
vehicles will escort the buses from Jean Lesage International Airport to
Valcartier Garrison. The route will be as follows:

    - Departure from airport, left onto Route de l'Aéroport, heading north.
    - Right onto Route Ste-Geneviève, heading east, until Route Ste-Geneviève
      crosses Boulevard Pie XI.
    - Left onto Boulevard Pie XI, heading north, until Autoroute Henri IV.
    - Left onto Autoroute Henri IV and continue to Valcartier Garrison's main

    Members of the public who would like to watch the convoy pass and wave to
the CF members may do so along the entire length of the route. The convoy will
leave Jean Lesage International Airport for Valcartier Garrison between
7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. People who are interested in showing their support for
the soldiers as the convoy passes may also wear red clothing--a recognized
sign of solidarity with Canadian troops.
    Media representatives who wish to attend the gathering of CF members and
their families at Valcartier are asked to contact Alex Maillé at 418-844-5000,
ext 4224. They must also come to the front gate of Valcartier Garrison on
February 5 at 6:30 p.m. to be escorted to the meeting place.
    Please note that most of the Quebec soldiers arriving home are
Reservists; they come from various regions of the province.

    Note: In accordance with instructions from airport authorities, media
representatives will not be given access to Jean Lesage International
Airport's secure areas or runway.
