TORONTO, April 22 /CNW/ - Protestors from across Ontario, representing
various labour, community and seniors organizations will line the grounds of
Queen's Park on Thursday April 23 demanding stronger pension protections from
government and corporations.
Protect Our Pensions Rally
Thursday April 23, 2009 - 12:00 p.m.
The global financial crisis and economic recession has put Canadian
pension plans in an increasingly precarious state, calling into question their
ongoing viability. This has prompted a firestorm of criticism by a growing
movement of Canadians calling on government and corporations to guarantee
support for these failing plans.
In addition, the rally is intended to draw attention to the sad fact that
less than half of all Canadian workers get any sort of pension from their
employer at all.
