Media Advisory - Pro Bono Law Ontario to launch resource centre for unrepresented litigants

TORONTO, Nov. 29 /CNW/ - This Thursday, Pro Bono Law Ontario (PBLO) is
launching a legal resource centre for people who cannot afford legal
representation for civil matters at the Toronto Superior Court of Justice. The
two-year pilot project, called Law Help Ontario, will be based at
393 University Ave. in the same building as the Superior Court of Justice.
The centre opens to the public on Monday, December 3, 2007.
The Civil Justice Reform Project report released last week by the Ontario
Ministry of the Attorney General noted a lack of support available to
low-income litigants in Ontario. The services of Law Help Ontario will help
make people more capable of representing themselves effectively and less
overwhelmed by the court process.
Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley and Chief Justice Heather Smith
will be guest speakers at the reception to celebrate the launch at 6 p.m. this
Thursday at Law Help Ontario along with other members of the legal community.
On Thursday, spokespeople will be available to speak to how Law Help
Ontario addresses the current crisis in access to legal services, the specific
services available and the legal community partners involved in the project.
