Media advisory - Prevention of child sexual abuse is focus of next meeting for Cornwall community's 'move forward' plan

CORNWALL, ON, Oct. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of its series of building
meetings designed to help the Cornwall community address how it can move
forward by achieving an environment of hope, trust and pride, a meeting is set
for October 18 that will focus on the prevention of child sexual abuse.
This meeting, like numerous others held in Cornwall this year, is a
continuation of the Cornwall Public Inquiry's Phase 2 agenda of healing and
reconciliation. With assistance from its Advisory Panel, the Inquiry's Phase 2
focus is to develop an agenda that focuses on "creating an environment of hope
for the future".
Last summer and fall, members of the Advisory Panel met with more than
40 community groups to receive their ideas on how to accomplish this. The
smaller community group meetings were followed by several larger, public
meetings that brought together a broad range of interested community members
and leaders to work on ideas and plan for the future. That work continues
today. As well, this fall, a series of neighbourhood meeting were held as a
way to have more community participation. The meetings saw a strong community
attendance that provided an even broader range of ideas for positive change
and community renewal.
The October 18 meeting will build on those ideas, further developing ways
that Cornwall can achieve an environment of hope, trust and pride through the
presentation of reports on progress and/or ideas that have come from the
community. The agenda will also focus on a discussion of issues in the
prevention of child sexual abuse.
