Media Advisory - Plastics Industry Strengthens Competitiveness with Launch of National Certification Program

    TORONTO, April 18 /CNW/ - The Canadian Plastics Sector Council (CPSC)
will officially launch the Canadian plastics industry's Certified Plastics
Practitioner (Cert.PP) program as part of Plast-Ex 2007, Canada's largest
plastics industry trade show.
    The certification program is the first of its kind in Canada to establish
national occupational standards to recognize the unique skills and
competencies of practitioners in the plastics processing industry. It will
enhance the competitiveness of companies in the plastics processing sector by
giving them the human resources tools to grow their businesses.

    With a value of $51.5-billion, the Canadian plastics marketplace is an
essential part of Canada's economy. The sector employs some 130,000 people in
over 2,400 companies across the country and is one of Canada's fastest growing
manufacturing sectors. The CPSC is an industry-driven, non-profit organization
funded by the Government of Canada's Sector Council Program.
    The mission of the Council is to enhance the competitiveness of the
Canadian plastics sector nationally, and internationally, by helping to ensure
that there is a sufficient number of appropriately qualified human resources.
    CPSC is a partnership between employers and employees. Council activities
are undertaken in cooperation with a wide range of players that are involved
in the plastics industry including firms, training institutions, labour
unions, industry associations, and governments.
