Media Advisory - Photo/Video Op - Toronto Is A-Buzz As Over 100 Spelling Champions Compete in Regional Spelling Bee

    -Gerrard Square Hosts Toronto East Spelling Stars-

    TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - The courage and confidence that it takes to
step on stage to spell out words such as effulgent, meerschaum and
valetudinarian is impressive for most adults - in children it is astounding.
On Saturday, April 28th, over 100 children from eastern Toronto will show that
courage as they compete for the coveted title of Toronto East Regional
Spelling Bee Champion. The winners will then have the opportunity to go all
the way to Spelling Bee of Canada's 20th Annual National Bee.
    Contestants will face off in three categories - Primary, ages 6 - 8;
Junior, ages 9 - 12; and Intermediate, ages 13 - 16. Spelling Bee of Canada,
PKD International U of T Chapter, Toronto Bathurst Lions Club and Gerrard
Square Shopping Centre are generously sponsoring this community-organized
event. First place winners in all categories will be awarded $500, second
place $300 and third place $150.
