Increasing illicit production of methamphetamine and ecstasy by organized
crime groups challenges our communities with a unique set of problems that
other illegal drugs have never before presented. These drugs are recurrently
produced in makeshift toxic laboratories in our neighbourhoods and pose a
serious threat to both emergency responders and public safety. Regrettably,
these risks also have a profound effect on those who are the most innocent,
drug endangered children.
Recognizing this threat, the Perth County Task Force on Crystal
Methamphetamine was formed. Over the past five years, the successes have been
far reaching. The Methamphetamine Summit will outline many of these successes
as well as outline the most recent move toward developing protocols to address
Drug Endangered Children. These protocols will be a first in Canada.
Editors/Producers Note: A complete meth lab (non-functioning) will be on
display and the press will have access. RCMP subject matter experts will
be available for one on one interviews.
