Media Advisory - Personal support workers to Smitherman: "Give us our dollar-forty-nine"

TORONTO, June 21 /CNW Telbec/ - The workers who provide personal health
care support will rally outside Health Minister George Smitherman's office
tomorrow, Friday, June 22, in a bid to finally obtain money recently pledged
to increase their wages.
The problem? Funding recently intended to increase the low wages paid to
personal support workers (PSWs) - those who do some of health care's most
difficult jobs - is being kept by some of the employers instead. It amounts to
an increase of $1.49 per hour. Health Minister Smitherman can make the money
flow. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is urging him to do the
right thing.
