Media Advisory - Ontario Government threatens to eliminate professional union

    TORONTO, Aug. 22 /CNW/ -

WHO AMAPCEO President Gary Gannage will host a news conference

WHEN Monday, August 25 at 10 am

           1 Dundas Street West
           Ste. 2310

WHY The Ontario Government is threatening to eliminate the right of
10,000 employees to be represented by their democratically elected
bargaining agent. In 1994, AMAPCEO members overwhelmingly decided
against being part of OPSEU. Now, the Government and OPSEU are
considering a back room deal to eliminate AMAPCEO, and force
AMAPCEO members to be represented by OPSEU. AMAPCEO is the second-
largest bargaining agent in the Ontario Public Service,
representing 10,000 professional and supervisory public servants
who work directly for the Government of Ontario in every ministry
and in a number of agencies, boards and commissions. During the
past 15 years of AMAPCEO's existence, governments of all three
political stripes have found AMAPCEO to be a professionally-run,
practical, problem-solving bargaining agent. Further details
