Media advisory - MPP Andrea Horwath to join St. Joe's info picket today against outsourcing of cleaning jobs

Message to Health Minister Caplan: Fund our hospital, don't risk our

HAMILTON, ON, Oct. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - NDP MPP Andrea Horwath will join the
info-picket line today warning against the outsourcing of cleaning jobs at
Hamilton's St. Joseph's Hospital.
Ms. Horwath, MPP for Hamilton Centre, will urge St Joe's not to skimp on
cleaning and outsource jobs to solve Premier McGuinty's fake health funding
crisis. Horwath, a strong campaigner against hospital-acquired infections like
C. difficile, will carry the message back to Health Minister David Caplan:
Fund our hospital, don't risk our health!

WHO: NDP MPP Andrea Horwath, along with St. Joe's workers

WHAT: St. Joe's info-picket against outsourcing of cleaning jobs

WHERE: Charlton Site, 50 Charlton Avenue East

WHEN: Today, Friday, October 10, 11:30 AM

Workers at St Joe's, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees
(CUPE) 786, have been staging regular info-pickets over the past two weeks to
warn the public against the hospital's reckless plan to contract out cleaning
jobs even as it reels from C. difficile.
The McGuinty government, through its so-called "Local Health Integration
Network" (LHIN), is not funding St Joe's adequately. But skimping on cleaning
by outsourcing jobs is the wrong strategy to clean up St. Joe's deficit,
workers say.
