Media Advisory - Minister of Energy and Infrastructure to visit Markham

    TORONTO, April 17 /CNW/ - George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister
of Energy and Infrastructure, will tour Markham District Energy (MDE) on
Monday, April 20.
    MDE, owned by the Town of Markham, is the first of four proposed energy
production plants and consists of high efficiency natural gas boilers,
chillers, and a natural gas cogeneration facility with waste heat recovery

    Time:      Tour of Markham District Energy                     3:20 p.m.
               Tour with Bruce Alder, President of
               Markham District Energy.

               Photo opportunity and media availability            3:45 p.m.
               Minister Smitherman initiates the start sequence
                at the facility.
               Michael Chan, Minister for Citizenship and Immigration and MPP
                for Markham-Unionville will join Minister Smitherman for the
                media availability.

    Location:  Markham District Energy
               8100 Warden Ave, Markham
               Media are invited to meet in the front glass foyer at 3:20 to
               join the tour.

    Minister Smitherman will then visit the James' "Powerhouse" residence to
discuss proposed Green Energy Act, part of the McGuinty government's
commitment to protect the climate and stimulate a green economy. He will be
joined by Helena Jaczek, MPP for Oak-Ridges-Markham.
