Media advisory - Maude Barlow in Halifax to challenge Atlantica

    OTTAWA, June 11 /CNW Telbec/ - Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the
Council of Canadians, will speak at a public meeting in Halifax on June 13
against "Atlantica" - a corporate-led initiative to integrate Atlantic Canada
with North Eastern United States.
    The counter-meeting is being held on the eve of the "Atlantica 2007"
conference organized by the Atlantic Provinces Chambers of Commerce (APCC) and
the Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce to promote the regional integration plan.
    Ms. Barlow will be joined by Scott Sinclair of Canadian Centre for Policy
Alternatives and Rocio Mejia of the Mexican civil society network, Red
Mexicana de accion frente al libro commercia.


    Maude Barlow is the National Chairperson of The Council of Canadians,
    Canada's largest citizen's advocacy organization. She is the recipient of
    numerous awards and has received honorary doctorates from six Canadian
    universities for her social justice work. In 2005, she was given the
    prestigious "Right Livelihood Award" by the Swedish Parliament. She is
    the best-selling author of 15 books and the upcoming Blue Covenant: The
    Global Water Crisis and the Right to Water, which will be released in
    October 2007.
