Media Advisory - Launch of Teen Injury Prevention Tour - Seven-city tour helps teens learn to make safe choices & reduces the human and financial burden of preventable injury

FREDERICTON, March 12 /CNW/ - A program committed to saving teenagers'
lives and reducing the human and financial burden of injury is being launched
in New Brunswick at a news conference Thursday, March 15.
The SMARTRISK HEROES Be Smart. Be Safe. Tour helps high school students
learn to make safe choices through a dynamic, one-hour presentation. The
presentation combines a lively multi-media show with the testimony of
18-year-old injury survivor Sean Fowler, who recounts how he lost an arm and a
leg in an injury that could have been prevented.
The SMARTRISK HEROES Be Smart. Be Safe. Tour is made possible by the
financial support of Canada's home, car and business insurers; the Workplace,
Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC); and the New Brunswick
Safety Council. It will visit more than 11,000 students in seven communities
across the province over the next few weeks.
Sean Fowler will be at the upcoming press conference, along with the
Honourable Edward Doherty, Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and
Labour, and the Honourable John Foran, Minister of Public Safety.
Other injury prevention stakeholders who will speak include:
Don Forgeron, Vice-President, Atlantic, Insurance Bureau of Canada;
Andy Ruaska, Director of Divisional Support, Work Safe Division, WHSCC; and
Jim Steen, Director of Training, New Brunswick Safety Council.
