Media Advisory - International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge and Coordination Commission to review planning of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games

VANCOUVER, Feb. 25 /CNW/ - International Olympic Committee (IOC)
President Jacques Rogge and the IOC's Coordination Commission for the 2010
Winter Games will be in Vancouver this week from February 26-28 for a
three-day review and working session.
This will be President Rogge's second visit since Vancouver was awarded
the Games on July 2, 2003. Since his last visit, in February 2005, a number of
significant Games milestones have been reached. The President's review of
preparations for the 2010 Winter Games will coincide, and include,
participating in some key Coordination Commission meetings, however, President
Rogge will largely keep a separate itinerary, as both the President and the
Coordination Commission have full schedules.
"This is an important week for Vancouver 2010 and our partners. We are
pleased to welcome President Rogge once again during this important stage of
our development," said John Furlong, Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver
Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).
"While the President is well aware of our planning to date, our team and our
partners are looking forward to updating him personally on the many milestones
that have been achieved since his last visit, and to receiving any feedback he
has to offer. This week also provides an important opportunity to meet
face-to-face with the Coordination Commission, which, on behalf of the IOC,
oversees our planning. The sessions are valuable and provide the best
opportunity for feedback, advice and information exchange as we continue to
move quickly into an operational phase and begin to host Sport Events."
The opportunity for media to interview President Rogge will take place
during the Coordination Commission's closing press conference, at 12 noon on
Thursday, February 28. A number of additional photo opportunities are outlined
below. During his visit, President Rogge will tour a number of Vancouver 2010
venues and sites. While not all sites provide the opportunity for general
media access, VANOC will release professional photos and b-roll to the media
in a timely manner to ensure the visit can be well documented. A link to the
FTP site where the photos and video will be housed can be found online, at the
Vancouver 2010 media centre, at
The Coordination Commission meetings with VANOC and its partners will
cover virtually all areas of planning for the 2010 Winter Games, including,
but not limited to: sport; Games-time planning; media services; ceremonies;
the Cultural Olympiad; accommodation; Paralympic planning; celebration sites;
transportation; sponsor services; marketing and communications; National
Olympic Committee services; and more. The Coordination Commission for
Vancouver 2010 is led by René Fasel. A complete list of Coordination
Commission members can be found on the IOC website, at
