The unveiling of a newly completed world-class research facility, The
Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes, will take place on Monday April 16,
2007 at 11am. The facility is located at The University of Western Ontario's
Faculty of Engineering in London, Ontario.
Thanks to a $500,000 donation from Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), a
typical two-story brick house, similar to many homes found in neighbourhoods
across Canada, has been constructed for the sole purpose of being slowly
destroyed. The facility is the first of its kind in the world.
Over the next few years, the home will be subjected to a variety of
severe weather conditions, including simulated winds of up to a category five
hurricane (200 miles per hour) that will eventually blow the roof off - all in
a controlled environment. Researchers will also study destructive pathways of
mould and water.

    Video News Release includes:

Visuals of the facility, lab test video, visuals of historic Canadian
weather events

    Interview clips with:

    - Stan Griffin, IBC President and CEO
    - F. Michael Bartlett, Professor of Civil and Environmental
        Engineering, University of Western Ontario
