Media Advisory - Homeowners Can Reduce Green House Gas Emissions with Canadian Electricity Monitor

OTTAWA, April 26 /CNW Telbec/ - By enabling homeowners to dramatically
reduce their spending on electricity, a new product called the PowerCost
Monitor is also helping Canadians reduce their green house gas emissions.
If every home in Canada had a PowerCost Monitor for one year, the savings
in green house gas emissions would equal the shutting down of one coal fired
plant or removing the emissions of almost 1.2 million vehicles.
A Canadian innovation, the PowerCost Monitor device lets a homeowner see
what their house is spending on electricity in real time minute to minute. It
also keeps a running total in kilowatts consumed.
Numerous scientific studies, including one by Oxford University's
Environmental Change Institute, have demonstrated that people use up to
20 percent less electricity with this monitor.
Earlier this year, the Monitor was awarded "Outstanding Energy Efficient
Technology Deployment of the Year" by the US based Association for Energy
Service Professionals (AESP).
