    TORONTO, Aug. 17 /CNW/ - Habitat for Humanity Toronto is hosting over
1000 volunteers this week during its inaugural ENERGY STAR(R) Blitz Build at
4200 Kingston Road. Volunteers are working tirelessly to complete ten homes in
time for a Dedication Ceremony on August 19 at 3:00 p.m., when over 55 men,
women, and children will permanently break the cycle of poverty. This project
represents the first ENERGY STAR(R) build for a Habitat for Humanity affiliate
in Canada. As a nonprofit homebuilder, Habitat Toronto is setting an example
for affordable housing solutions that protect the environment for future
    The land at Kingston Road was purchased by Ed and Fran Clark, and
represents the largest land donation by a family in Canadian Habitat history.
The Home Depot Canada, Habitat Toronto's Partner in Sustainability, and the
affiliate's largest corporate donor, is mobilizing employees to volunteer
every day of the Blitz. Community Builders on the project include Direct
Energy and Enbridge, whose employees are also participating in this "finishing
touches" build. Home Donors include BILD, CSA Group, GWL Realty Advisors Inc.,
Manulife Financial, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd., Ontario Power
Authority, Schneider Electric, and TD Bank Financial Group. All home donors
have contributed both financially and through employee volunteer engagement.
