Media Advisory - GreenField Ethanol increases production of renewable home grown fuel to ease burden of energy security in Canada

New Johnstown plant to produce 200-million litres of ethanol per year

    PRESCOTT, ON, Sept. 3 /CNW Telbec/ -

WHAT: GreenField Ethanol will announce the official opening of its
largest ethanol plant in Canada -- the latest milestone in energy
security to produce a renewable home grown fuel. Ethanol is a net
energy product that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by almost
60 per cent. The state-of-the-art facility sets the gold standard
in the biofuels industry and provides a significant investment for
local farmers as the amount of corn for each acre has increased
exponentially. More than 70 per cent of revenue from an ethanol
plant is spent within a 150-kilometre radius of the plant site.

WHO: Kenneth Field, Chairman and Founder, GreenField Ethanol
The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources

    About Ethanol

Ethanol is a renewable transportation fuel made from grains such as corn
and wheat, or from the cellulose fibres found in biomass including
agricultural, municipal and forestry waste. Ethanol is affordable and offers
unique environmental benefits. National Resources Canada's GH Genius model
shows that corn ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by 40 to 60
per cent compared to gasoline. Cellulosic ethanol has the potential to reduce
GHGs by up to 87 per cent according to the US Department of Energy's GREET
model. The federal government's commitment to requiring gasoline to contain an
average of five per cent ethanol by 2010 will bring GHG reductions equivalent
to removing one million cars from Canada's highways each and every year.
