Media Advisory - Fire Fighters from around North America to honour Vancouver Fire Fighter at memorial service on Wednesday, September 5

VANCOUVER, Sept. 4 /CNW/ - Hundreds of professional fire fighters from
Canada and the United States will pay tribute at a memorial service at 10 AM
tomorrow, Wednesday, September 5, 2007 for Vancouver Fire Fighter Robert E.
Hall. He passed away Monday, August 27 from one of the seven types of cancers
recognized as an occupational disease associated with long-term employment as
a firefighter. He was 51.
An Acting Captain with Vancouver Fire Fighters' Local 18, and proud union
leader, Hall was a past secretary treasurer of Vancouver Fire Fighters' Local
18. He served as secretary treasurer of the British Columbia Professional Fire
Fighters Association for four terms, from 2000 to 2007.

CANCER PRESUMPTION: One of Robert Hall's accomplishments as a fire
fighter was the role he played in lobbying for advancing the causes of fire
fighters, especially for cancer presumption. He helped to develop the
strategies to work with the Provincial Government.
Hall was on hand in October 2005 when the British Columbia Government
passed legislation that recognizes certain cancers as occupational diseases
associated with long-term employment as a firefighter. These are: primary site
brain cancer, primary site bladder cancer, primary site kidney cancer, primary
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, primary site ureter cancer, primary site colorectal
cancer and primary leukemia.

PERSONAL INFORMATION: His wife Katty, children Michael, Andrea, Yasmine,
Leila and Spencer, parents Douglas and Hazel, sister Maureen and brother Skip
survive Robert Hall.
Robert was passionate about many things in his life: family, friends,
music, his job as a fire fighter, and his motorcycle. He was especially proud
about being a father and friend to his five children.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert's memory to the BC
Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund, the BC Cancer Agency, or the Canadian
Cancer Society Diamond Ball are gratefully accepted.
