Media Advisory - Electricity Coalition to launch province-wide campaign against power privatization in Peterborough. Critique of latest Liberal policy

PETERBOROUGH, ON, Sept. 5 /CNW/ - A press conference will be held
tomorrow morning Sept. 6 at 11am at the P.U.S. hydro substation at the corner
of Parkhill Rd. and Wallis Dr. in Peterborough. Later that day, a Public
meeting will be held at 7pm at the Peterborough Public Library, 345 Aylmer St.

said "the plan to deregulate electricity and open up the hydro market to
competition simply hasn't worked and we can't go back there, I have drawn a

With climate change and the environment now being the number one issue
Kahnert asked "Can market forces save the planet? Obviously not. Electricity
markets have failed miserably and been discredited everywhere, doubling,
tripling and even raising electricity rates 10 times."
"Manitoba has public power, Quebec has public power. Why is Ontario
continuing down the road of electricity deregulation? Most voters do not
realize that the Liberals are locked into the Harris/Eves private power plan."
"We want our electricity supply to be reliable, we want it to be
affordable and more than ever we want it to be environmentally responsible.
Our economy and our jobs depend on it."
