Media Advisory - Dismantling of major international endangered species smuggling ring

    OTTAWA, Sept. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - Environment Canada, Wildlife Enforcement
Division, and its American partners, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will
reveal the details of a major operation to dismantle an international ring for
the smuggling of queen conch (mollusc), an endangered species.
    Operation Shell Game, conducted between November 2006 and September 2007,
also led to the largest confiscation in Canada of endangered species under
CITES, a convention on international trade in wild animals and plants.
