Media advisory - Deployment of armoured Squadron to Afghanistan

    VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Feb. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - After being honoured at a
ceremony on January 28, 2008, about forty soldiers of 12e Régiment blindé du
Canada's D Squadron will be deploying to Afghanistan tomorrow. Members of the
media who would like to attend this departure are invited to join the Canadian
Forces members and their families at Valcartier Garrison before the troops
leave for Jean-Lesage International Airport:

    Gathering location: Valcartier Garrison
    Date/time: Tuesday, February 19, 2008, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

    Troops from D Squadron, that will be leaving Valcartier in direction of
the Airport tomorrow at 2:30 p.m., will gradually be integrated into Joint
Task Force Afghanistan (JTF-Afg), Operation ATHENA Rotation 5, for a mission
that will take place from February to September 2008.

    Media representatives who wish to attend the departure are asked to
contact 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Public Affairs. They must also
report to the front gate of Valcartier Garrison on February 19 at 1:00 p.m. to
be escorted to the meeting place.

    Note: Media representatives will not be able to access secured zones and
    the strip of Jean-Lesage International Airport. However, they will be
    able to film or take pictures of soldiers from a sector located near the
    boarding zone. Cameramen and photographers are therefore invited to show
    up at 700, rue de l'Aéroport to cover the takeoff.
