Media advisory - CUPE Ontario bus brings election campaign to London; calls Liberals, Conservatives 'two sides of the same coin'

LONDON, ON, Sept. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - Calling the McGuinty Liberals and the
Tory Conservatives 'two sides of the same coin,' Canadian Union of Public
Employees (CUPE) Ontario's election bus arrives in London tomorrow to call on
voters to put people first when they vote in the coming provincial election on
October 10.
The bus, which features giant caricatures of Dalton McGuinty and John
Tory on its sides, will join federal NDP leader Jack Layton at a rally to kick
off the campaigns of local NDP candidates Steven Maynard (London Fanshawe) and
Steve Holmes (London Centre North).
"Like Maynard and Holmes, CUPE Ontario wants a government that will stop
the privatization of public services like health care," says Fred Hahn,
Secretary-Treasurer of CUPE Ontario. "Our message is that the people of
Ontario deserve better government. Our schools are in a financial crisis,
tuition fees have soared and our cities are struggling under the burden of
downloaded provincial services. While the McGuinty Liberals may not be as
overtly extreme a government as the Harris-Eves regime, let's be clear,
McGuinty has yet to reverse many of the Tory policies that have devastated
this province."
The CUPE Ontario bus will appear:

           Date: Thursday, September 13, 2007
           Time 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Location: NDP candidates office - plaza parking lot
                       561 Southdale Road East, London

CUPE Ontario is pushing for a provincial government that will work to
ensure schools, universities, social services, health care and municipal
services are adequately funded in order to properly meet the needs of
Ontarians. As well, the government needs to address Ontario's growing poverty,
stop loss of jobs, reverse increasing inequity, defend public services and
aggressively act on climate change.
