Media advisory - CPA annual event to advance political agenda and honour excellence in policing

    OTTAWA, April 17 /CNW Telbec/ - Over 150 delegates representing 57,000
front line police personnel members of the Canadian Police Association (CPA)
will be in Ottawa next week for the CPA Annual Legislative Conference. The
conference is taking place at the Fairmont Château Laurier from Monday April
20, 2009 until Wednesday April 22, 2009.
    Highlights of the conference include the CPA Annual Awards of Excellence
which will be presented by the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice
and Attorney General of Canada and the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of
Public Safety and CPA's Police Day on Parliament Hill.
    CPA delegates will also review the CPA advocacy priorities under the 40th
Parliament, which are as follows:

    - Government Promise of at Least 2,500 More Front-Line Police Officers
    - Independent Association for the RCMP
    - Public Safety Occupations Compensation Benefit
    - Public Safety Occupation Designation for Public Safety Personnel

    The CPA will hold its Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony as the opening
event of the 3-day meeting on April 20, 2009. The Honourable Rob Nicholson,
Minister of Justice and the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public
Safety will join CPA President Charles Momy in presenting the 2009 Awards of
Excellence. This annual ceremony offers the opportunity to recognize police
officers whose acts and deeds far exceeded the every day call of duty during
the past year.
