Media advisory - CPA annual event to advance political agenda and honour excellence in policing

    OTTAWA, April 13 /CNW Telbec/ - Over 150 delegates representing 54,700
front line police personnel members of the Canadian Police Association (CPA)
will be in Ottawa next week for the CPA Annual Legislative Conference. The
conference is taking place at the Fairmont Château Laurier from Monday April
16, 2007 until Wednesday April 18, 2007.
    Highlights of the conference include an address from the Honourable Rob
Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, CPA's Police
Day on Parliament Hill, and the CPA Annual Awards of Excellence which will be
presented by the Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board of

    CPA delegates will also review the CPA advocacy priorities under the 39th
Parliament, which are as follows:

    - National Drug Strategy,
    - Police Officers' Bill of Rights
    - Canada's Sentencing, Corrections and Parole Systems
    - Public Safety Occupations Compensation Benefit
    - Independent Association for the RCMP

    CPA President Tony Cannavino will explain the Canadian Police
Association's priorities which delegates will be taking to Parliamentarians
during the "Police Day on Parliament Hill".


    Wednesday April 18, 2007 - Ballroom, Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa

    The CPA will also hold its Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony as the
closing event of the 3-day meeting on April 18, 2007. The President of the
Treasury Board of Canada, the Honourable Vic Toews will join CPA President
Tony Cannavino in presenting the 2007 Awards of Excellence.  This annual
ceremony offers the opportunity to recognize police officers whose acts and
deeds far exceeded the every day call of duty during the past year.

    Attached is a list of this year's recipients, including our National
Awards of Excellence Recipients from the Montreal Police Service that
intervened during the tragic events at Dawson College last September.
