Media Advisory - City Council "corporate visioning" to get gender analysis

Ottawa women's group to launch "peach paper" on municipal governance

    OTTAWA, June 19 /CNW Telbec/ - City Council's "corporate visioning"
process will receive a gender-lens analysis this week with the release of a
"peach paper" on municipal governance by the City for All Women Initiative
The paper will be formally released at a news conference:

WHAT: News conference releasing "peach paper" on governance

WHO: Lisa D'Addese, Women's Action Team, CAWI
Sandy Onyalo, Step it Up Campaign
Françoise Karangwayire, Association des femmes rwandaises
Suzanne Doerge, Coordinator, City for All Women Initiative

    WHEN: Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 10:00 AM
Hand-delivering the paper to the Mayor's office at 10:20 AM

WHERE: Councillor's lounge, Second floor, City Hall,
           110 Laurier Street West

Concerned with the limited nature of public involvement in the corporate
visioning process, CAWI opted for a pro-active approach by releasing a
discussion paper:

    - To outline the importance of inclusion of the full diversity of women
      in City decision-making
    - To develop criteria necessary for inclusive decision-making
    - And to apply minimum standards to citizen engagement mechanisms.

City for All Women Initiative (CAWI) is a partnership between women from
diverse communities, community organizations, academics and the City of
Ottawa. CAWI's aim is to strengthen the capacity of the full diversity of
women and the City of Ottawa to work in partnership so as to create a more
inclusive city and promote gender equality. We assist the City of Ottawa in
using a Gender Equality Lens in decision making.
