Media Advisory - Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) to Comment on Federal Budget

    OTTAWA, Feb. 21 /CNW/ - Richard Monk, CMA, FCMA, CFE, C.Dir., Chair of
the Board for Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada), will be
available to comment on the federal budget upon its release on Tuesday,
February 26, 2008.
    In its pre-budget submission A Prosperous Future for Canadians: Focusing
on Productivity, CMA Canada recommended a series of measures designed to
improve productivity in Canada. These include:

    - Measures to attract and retain the world's highly-skilled foreign
    - Incentives to improve workplace literacy;
    - A special tax credit to boost information and communications technology
      (ICT) adoption by small and medium-sized enterprises;
    - Increased harmonization of federal and provincial sales tax regimes;
    - Extending the refundability feature of the Scientific Research and
      Experimental Development Tax Credit (SR&ED) to businesses of all sizes;
    - Offsetting larger R&D claims against other government levies such as
      employment insurance (EI) premiums;
    - Providing adequate resources to combat counterfeiting and piracy of
      intellectual property as recommended by government committees.
