GUELPH, ON, Sept. 4 /CNW/ - Staff and members of the Canadian Auto
Workers union will be distributing information leaflets to workers at all
Linamar plants in Guelph today from 2 -3:30 p.m. as workers leave the plant
Today's initiative is in response to a number of requests from Linamar
workers to join the union, with a flood of inquiries coming in following the
August 28 lay-off of 800 workers.
Joining union representatives will be former workers from Progressive
Moulded Products (PMP). In July, the owner of PMP abruptly shut down 11 plants
across the greater Toronto area, resulting in the loss of more than 2,000
non-union jobs. The PMP workers want to send a message to Linamar workers -
don't let the same thing happen to you. While not members of the CAW, the
union has been assisting the PMP group in negotiating owed monies.
The CAW currently represents thousands of auto-parts workers across
The union will assemble at CAW Local 1917 at 1:45 pm. (located at 611
Silvercreek Parkway North, Guelph, ON) to prepare for the event.
