TORONTO, June 26 /CNW/ - CAW members at OLG in Brantford and Woodbine
voted today unanimously in support of their bargaining committee in their
efforts to reach a fair and equitable agreement with the company.
Meetings were held in Brantford this morning, where over 600 people
attended and in Toronto where 80 Woodbine security officers attended and voted
unanimously to continue supporting their bargaining committee.
A meeting is scheduled to take place in Sudbury on June 27th and workers
there are expected to give their bargaining committee equal support.
900 CAW members have been on strike at the three OLG locations since
June 1. During the meetings, the CAW provided members with a copy of the
employer's most recent proposal, which was "soundly rejected", said
Hemi Mitic, Assistant to CAW National President Buzz Hargrove.
"The message from the membership is loud and clear to OLG management:
They must bargain a fair agreement," Mitic said.
OLG is a crown corporation which generates over $6.5 billion of revenue
each year, and is demanding major concessions from workers and the conversion
of full-time jobs into part-time employment.
