Media Advisory - Canadian Olympians To Tee It Up In Support of Canadian Olympic Foundation



    WHISTLER, BC, Aug. 31 /CNW/ - One week from today, on Friday, September
7, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and VANOC will host the fifth annual
Whistler Golf Tournament, presented by Bell Canada, in support of the Canadian
Olympic Foundation.
    The competition will feature participation and appearances by some of the
West Coast's and Canada's most recognized Olympians including Iain Brambell
(rowing), Veronica Brenner (freestyle skiing), Charmaine Crooks (athletics),
Robert Esmie (athletics), Chris Farstad (bobsleigh), Melissa Hollingsworth
(skeleton), Lori Fung-Methorst (rhythmic gymnastics), Crispin Lipscomb
(snowboard), Derek Porter (rowing), Tricia Smith (rowing) and Georgina
Wheatcroft (curling). COC Chief Executive Officer Chris Rudge and senior
executives at VANOC will also be participating in the tournament.
    Included in the day's festivities are 18 holes of golf, Olympic-themed
demonstrations, a silent and live auction, and dinner at the Four Seasons
Resort Whistler. CBC Sports' Steve Armitage will serve as the tournament's
emcee and host.

    Time:     The Opening Ceremony featuring athlete introductions is
              scheduled for 10:45 a.m. The shotgun start is set for 11 a.m.
    

    Photo-Ops: Canadian Olympic athletes, COC and VANOC executives, and
on-course sport demonstrations featuring archery, beach volleyball,
canoe/kayak, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, shooting and taekwondo by Canadian
Olympic hopefuls.
