Media Advisory - Canadian Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Chamber to address Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade

OTTAWA, Sept. 11 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the
U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be presenting to the Standing Senate Committee
on Foreign Affairs and International Trade. It will take place at Centre
Block, Room 160-S from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm on September 15th.
This joint presentation is based on the joint report by both the Canadian
and U.S. Chamber during the summer entitled: Finding the Balance: Shared
Border of the Future and will address short-term and practical recommendations
for making the border more secure and trade-efficient.
With Prime Minister Harper meeting with President Obama the following
day, September 16th, this is a timely presentation, given the importance of
the Canada-U.S. partnership. Canada and the United States have the largest
trading relationship in the world with $1.6 billion in two-way trade and
300,000 travellers crossing the border everyday. Our two-way trade goes beyond
the sale of final goods and services to each other. As has been said many
times, we build things together - one-third of Canada-U.S. trade is the
intra-company delivery of input materials. Major benefits flow from this
relationship including 7 million jobs in the United States and 3 million in
The following people will be presenting to the Committee and will be
available for comment:

    Shirley-Ann George
    VP, Policy
    Canadian Chamber of Commerce

    Patrick Kilbride
    Director, Western Hemisphere Affairs
    U.S. Chamber of Commerce
