Media Advisory - Alex Baumann, on behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee, to Advocate for Funding for Road to Excellence Program At Standing Committee on Finance

    MONTREAL, Dec. 5 /CNW/ - Alex Baumann, Executive Director of the Road to
Excellence program and two-time Olympic gold medallist in swimming, is
scheduled to appear before the Standing Committee on Finance on Friday,
December 7, 2007 to advocate for funding for the Road to Excellence summer
sport technical initiative to benefit Canadian summer athletes.
    Baumann, who is appearing on behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee
(COC), one of the partners in the Road to Excellence program, will be
advocating for government funding of $30 million annually to support the
program, which also supports Canadian Paralympic athletes. The Road to
Excellence program is the summer equivalent of the successful Own the Podium
2010 program, which supports winter sport athletes.
    COC President Michael Chambers, Executive Committee members Richard Pound
and Walter Sieber and COC Chief Executive Officer Chris Rudge are also
scheduled to attend the presentation to the Standing Committee on Finance.
