McMillan Binch Mendelsohn LLP has added international disputes partner Robert Wisner to its Toronto office

    TORONTO, June 25 /CNW/ - McMillan Binch Mendelsohn LLP is pleased to
announce that Robert Wisner has joined its highly regarded Litigation and
Dispute Resolution group as partner. His practice will focus on international
arbitration and litigation, foreign investment protection and international
    Returning to McMillan Binch Mendelsohn after four and a half years at a
boutique firm specialising in investor-state arbitration, Mr. Wisner has
extensive experience in international commercial disputes and expects to carry
out a mixed commercial and treaty-based international practice.
    Mr. Wisner has argued cases involving businesses and governments from
around the world and has appeared at the trial and appellate levels of the
Ontario and Federal courts in international, corporate-commercial and
competition litigation. He has appeared before numerous ICSID and NAFTA
tribunals and has handled commercial disputes under the ICC, AAA, CIETAC and
other rules. Most recently, he was co-lead counsel in Continental Casualty
Company v. Argentina, the first ICSID case involving Argentina's default on
sovereign debt and conversion into pesos of US dollar denominated financial
assets. The Tribunal upheld jurisdiction in February 2006 and completed a
merits hearing last December.
    In addition to his advocacy work, Robert provides advice to international
businesses on foreign investment protection, market access, government
procurement, economic sanctions, political risk insurance, anti-bribery and
other international treaty issues. Prior to practising law, Robert served as
an economist in the Investment Policy Division of Canada's Department of
International Trade.
