New Liberal Ad Features Change That's Working
OTTAWA, Aug. 7 /CNW/ - The Ontario Liberal Party has launched another ad
in its "Change That's Working" series of television ads. The latest one
features Gisèle Lalonde, former President of SOS Montfort, a group dedicated
to saving Ottawa's Montfort Hospital.
The Montfort Hospital was to be closed under the previous Conservative
government, but the McGuinty Liberals vowed to keep it open. Since the
McGuinty government took power in 2003, Montfort has not only been saved, but
is being expanded to double its original size, adding two new wings and
renovating existing services.
The expansion of the Montfort Hospital is part of the Ontario
government's plan to modernize hospitals, upgrade medical equipment and reduce
wait times for people in the Ottawa area. "Today, under the McGuinty
government," says Lalonde in the ad, "we have a hospital that will really
provide all the care we need."
The McGuinty Liberals also fought for CHEO to remain open after the
former Conservative government had planned to close the CHEO paediatric
cardiac surgery unit and ship patients to Toronto. Since 2003, the McGuinty
government has kept CHEO's Cardiac Unit in Ottawa and surgical volumes have
In addition, the McGuinty government has made major investments in health
care and health care infrastructure projects in Ottawa totalling more than a
half billion dollars. Under the province's ReNew Ontario investment
infrastructure plan, the McGuinty government and its partners will invest at
least $5 billion over five years to improve health care facilities.
Investments in health care infrastructure are just one part of the McGuinty
government's strategy for improving health care in Ottawa, which also
- Expanded Cancer Centre with construction at the Ottawa Hospital and
Queensway Carleton Hospital
- Expansions at CHEO including a new wing for the intensive care unit,
with oncology and ambulatory care
- Eight new Family Health Teams in the region
