McGuinty Liberals Fight to Protect Health Care for Franco-Ontarians

New Liberal Ad Features Change That's Working

OTTAWA, Aug. 7 /CNW/ - The Ontario Liberal Party has launched another ad
in its "Change That's Working" series of television ads. The latest one
features Gisèle Lalonde, former President of SOS Montfort, a group dedicated
to saving Ottawa's Montfort Hospital.
The Montfort Hospital was to be closed under the previous Conservative
government, but the McGuinty Liberals vowed to keep it open. Since the
McGuinty government took power in 2003, Montfort has not only been saved, but
is being expanded to double its original size, adding two new wings and
renovating existing services. The McGuinty government has invested
$185 million towards the expansion of the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa to
ensure that Franco-Ontarians have the best access to the care they need.
"Dalton, we'd like to thank you very much for everything you've done for
Ontario Francophones," says Lalonde in the ad.
The McGuinty government has made significant advancements in the way
provincial government services are delivered to Francophones since 2003. This
includes the designation of 13 additional agencies and three additional
regions under the French Language Services Act, which ensures that more
Francophones benefit from health, legal and government services in their
Investments in health care services for Franco-Ontarians are just one
part of the McGuinty government's strategy for improving French language
services in Ontario, which also includes:

    - Investing more than $2.1 million for 162 projects to build, repair,
renovate and upgrade community agencies that provide services in
French to people with a developmental disability in Ontario
    - Granting TFO, Ontario's French-language public broadcasting network,
        independence from TVO
    - $317 million in additional funding since 2003 for French-language
school boards to provide schools in areas where Franco-Ontarians live
    - Appointing Mr. François Boileau as Ontario's first French Language
Services Commissioner to ensure greater transparency and
accountability in the delivery of government services in French.

The television ads were paid for by the Ontario Liberal Party and can be
