McGuinty Government Working With Ontarians To Get Results

Fourth Annual Progress Report Highlights Stronger Public Schools, Better
Health Care And More Prosperity For Families

QUEEN'S PARK, Aug. 31 /CNW/ - Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty today
released the fourth in a series of progress reports on the government's
ongoing plan to deliver success for students, better health, jobs and
"Four years ago, Ontarians told us they wanted to improve schools and
health care, clean up the environment and build more prosperity for their
children," said Premier McGuinty. "Together, we began working on these
priorities - and together, we've made real progress."

The 2007 Progress Report details the government's priority results since
coming to office in 2003. Highlights of the report include:

    - Smaller class sizes. Four years ago, one quarter of all primary
students were in classes of 25 students or more. We're now on track
to ensure that 90 per cent of primary classes have 20 or fewer
        students this fall.

    - Half a million more Ontarians with a family doctor - and more funding
means 8,000 new nurses in Ontario.

    - Four years ago, Ontario faced a $5.6-billion deficit, which
threatened public services and the province's high quality of life.
Today, the economy has created thousands of good jobs, attracted
billions in new investment, the Budget is balanced and the province
is on track to post five consecutive surpluses between 2005 and 2010.

"These results are due to the hard work of people across the province,"
said Premier McGuinty. "Together, we've come a long way, but there's still
more to do. Through our continued investments - and the hard work of Ontarians
- we'll keep making progress. And together, we'll build a stronger, healthier
and more prosperous Ontario for future generations."
