Maude Barlow To Address Ontario Drinking Water Conference, May 4, Toronto

    TORONTO, April 30 /CNW/ - Maude Barlow, chair of the Council of
Canadians, will address the opening plenary session of the Joint Annual
Conference of the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) and the Ontario
Municipal Water Association (OMWA), May 4-6 at the Toronto Congress Centre.
Barlow, who also serves as Senior Advisor on Water to the President of the UN
General Assembly, has been a long-time advocate of safe drinking water as a
"basic human right."
    Also highlighting the opening plenary (Monday May 4, 0830 hrs) will be
Ontario's Minister of the Environment, the Hon. John Gerretsen and Toronto
Mayor, David Miller.  Concurrent technical sessions Monday afternoon and
Tuesday will focus on the theme "Municipal Drinking Water - Today's
Challenges" and provide details on the many aspects of efficiently delivering
safe drinking water - including source protection, treatment, distribution and

coming forward almost daily and new government infrastructure funding programs
