Maibec to temporarily close its Saint-Pamphile lumber mill

QUEBEC CITY, Feb. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Maibec Inc. (Quebec City, QC.)
announces the temporary closing of its lumber mill in Saint-Pamphile de
l'Islet. This temporary shutdown will take place gradually, starting with
sawmill operations as of February 22.
This temporary cutback in lumber production is due to the current
imbalance between supply and demand in the North American lumber industry, the
high cost of wood and a strong drop in housing starts.
Maibec's solid wood siding, cedar shingle and cedar mulch divisions will
not be affected by this temporary cutback in the lumber division.
A total of 152 employees will be laid off during this temporary closing.
Management will be tracking market conditions on a monthly basis and
hopes to be back in production within three months.

Maibec Inc. is a private Quebec City-based company, and is the leading
marketer of cedar shingles in North America, Canada's biggest manufacturer of
genuine wood siding and North America's major producer of cedar mulch.
