Maibec to temporarily close its Pontiac shingle mill

QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - Maibec Inc. (Quebec City, QC.)
announces the temporary closing of its Clarendon cedar shingle mill, in the
Pontiac region. This temporary shutdown is effective as of this day.
This temporary cutback in shingle's production is due to the current
imbalance between supply and demand in the North American building
construction industry, the high cost of round wood and a strong drop in
housing starts.
A total of 56 employees will be laid off during this temporary closing.
Management will be tracking market conditions on a monthly basis and
hopes to be back in production within six months.

Maibec Inc. is a private Quebec City-based company, and is the leading
marketer of cedar shingles in North America, Canada's biggest manufacturer of
genuine wood siding and North America's major producer of cedar mulch. Maibec
is also renowned as a producer of quality lumber.
