Lyrtech signs a major contract in the field of transportation and embodies its strategy in the vision sector

QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - Lyrtech inc. ("Lyrtech", TSX-V: LYT) is
pleased to announce the signing of a major contract with the Virginia Tech
Transportation Institute-the largest university-level research center at
Virginia Tech-for the development of two video acquisition systems for the
transportation industry.
Comparable to the "black box" found in modern aircraft, these systems
will be designed for use in on-road vehicles to capture and record video and
vehicular data to analyze the behavior of drivers on U.S. highways.
"These systems will enable naturalistic research studies to help
determine the causal factors in automotive crashes. This knowledge will help
in the design of safety systems in vehicles with the ultimate goal of saving
lives," says Andy Petersen, director of the center for technology development
at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. "We selected Lyrtech because of
their strong expertise and background in DSP-based video applications, making
them a logical choice."
The part of the contract related to engineering stands at more than
US$ 500,000 and it will be carried out almost entirely during the 2008 fiscal
"This contract confirms the strategic positioning in the field of
intelligent vision that Lyrtech initiated a few months ago," says
Jean-Sébastien Bérubé, executive vice president of sales and marketing at
Lyrtech. "Through the unique expertise it has gained over the past 25 years
and a privileged business relationship with its partner Texas Instruments,
Lyrtech has positioned itself as a leader in the field of embedded system
design for digital signal processing."
Recently selected by Texas Instruments to be part of its Design House
Network, Lyrtech is now very happy to work with the prestigious Virginia Tech
Transportation Institute.

research to save lives, save time, and save money in the transportation field
by developing state-of-the-art tools, techniques, and technologies to solve
transportation challenges. Its cutting-edge research has effected significant
changes in public policies in the transportation domain at the state and
national levels. The Institute conducts applied research to develop new
techniques and technologies to study transportation challenges from various
perspectives: vehicle, driver, infrastructure, and environment. VTTI has at
its disposal a wide range of tools and facilities to explore transportation
problems including the Virginia Smart Road and VTTI's internally-developed
data acquisition systems. These capabilities have earned VTTI a unique
standing in the transportation research field and have made the Institute a
"one-stop shop" for transportation research, evaluation, analysis, and
