Longest dragon in North America to snake through downtown Toronto

    TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - A traditional Chinese dragon measuring
330 ft. (100 m.) - the longest known such "reptile" in North America - will
snake through the streets of Toronto, on Saturday, September 12th, supported
by 50 strong and agile pairs of arms, and accompanied by a smaller 20-legged
dragon. Their graceful, sinuous movements will add rhythm and colour to two
parades organized on the same day by the International Taoist Tai Chi Society.
In the morning, the dragons will be the most colourful "float" in a
parade marking the 23rd annual International Taoist Tai Chi Awareness Day. It
will leave Nathan-Phillips Square at 10 a.m., after a mega-demonstration of
Taoist Tai Chi(TM) internal arts of health, to make its way through the
downtown core of the city.
Afterwards, dragons, floats, marching bands, marchers etc. will all be
bused to Richmond Hill, escorted by a dozen police motorcycle. There they will
take part in a second parade, down Elgin Mills, from Yonge Street to Ohio
Road, to mark the Grand Opening of the Society's new 7,000 sq.ft. Toronto
The dragon figure is known in Chinese culture as the absolute master of
weather, which it controls to be ideal for agriculture and other needs of the
population. (Actually, if it rains too heavily on Saturday, the dragons will
be unable to join the parade for fear of damaging their delicate scales.)

Also symbolizing prosperity, the dragon figure represents well the 40
thousand-member International Taoist Tai Chi Society, a non-profit umbrella
organization grouping affiliated NPOs in 26 countries worldwide that promote
well-being in the community through the practice of Taoist Tai Chi(TM)
internal arts of health. Its Canadian arm is the Taoist Tai Chi Society of
Canada, a registered charitable organization founded in 1970 by Master Moy
