Lieutenant Governor offers condolences to family and friends of Constable Robert Plunkett

TORONTO, Aug. 3 /CNW/ - The Hon. James K. Bartleman today issued the
following statement:

In the name of Her Majesty The Queen, I offer my deepest sympathy to the
family, friends and colleagues of Constable Robert Plunkett, who was killed in
the line of duty while serving with the York Regional Police Special Services
Unit.
Constable Plunkett's long-time support for people with disabilities shows
that his sense of community service went far beyond his policing duties. Not
only did he chair the Ontario Special Olympics in 2000, he supported that
organization as a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser for 15 years. This strong
record of public service compounds the loss all Ontarians feel at his passing.
The tragic death of Constable Plunkett reminds us of the risks that
police officers face every day as they serve and protect our communities. I
have the deepest respect for those who serve in this way. I join with his
family and friends and all members of the broader police community in mourning
the loss of this dedicated and highly regarded officer.
