John Tory caves to Hillier in another display of questionable judgment
CROSBY, ON, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - Ontario Liberals will continue to stand up
for supply management in our agricultural industries, said Ian Wilson, Liberal
candidate (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington)
"We will continue stand up for supply management and Ontario farmers,"
said Wilson. "Why won't John Tory make fairness for farmers a priority?"
Wilson said that McGuinty Liberals stand so strongly behind supply
management that it is written into the 2007 election platform. He noted that
John Tory fails to do the same when faced with opposition from Randy Hillier.
"There's no question, our supply management system is under attack. There
are some who want to take away that stability from our farmers and their
families," said Wilson. "McGuinty Liberals will stand with our farmers, for
their security and their families."
The chicken, egg, dairy, turkey, and broiler hatching chicken industries
in Ontario operate under supply-management systems. These industry boards set
or negotiate the minimum prices paid to producers by primary processors.
For the past four years, McGuinty Liberals have delivered for Ontario
farmers including a new risk management program for farm income stabilization.
"John Tory's failure to stand up for supply management raises serious
questions about who is in charge of agriculture policy in the Conservative
party and John Tory's leadership," Wilson said.
