QUEBEC, June 25 /CNW Telbec/ - Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer
of Québec, wishes to inform the public that a guilty verdict was handed down
in a case concerning violations of the Election Act.
Within the context of the March 26, 2007 general election, a violation of
the Election Act was committed in the electoral division of Richelieu.
While he was the official agent of Mr. François Desmarais, candidate for
the Parti Vert du Québec, Mr. Stéphane Daigle failed to submit to the Chief
Electoral Officer of Québec, not later than June 26, 2007, the election
expense return, thereby contravening section 432 of the Election Act.
Following the hearing by default held on June 13, 2008, the accused was
found guilty of the charge brought against him and was ordered to pay a fine
of $250, plus expenses.
