Legal proceedings by the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec under the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities - Three guilty pleas are entered in the Montréal region

QUEBEC, June 27 /CNW Telbec/ - Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer
of Québec, wishes to inform the public that three guilty pleas were entered in
cases concerning violations of the Act respecting elections and referendums in
municipalities (AERM).
On or about March 31, 2006, Ms. Francine Lambert, in her capacity as
administrative assistant of the Equipe Bourque/Vision Montréal political
party, aided Mr. Robert Jr. Houde, official representative of said party, in
submitting a financial report containing false particulars or information
concerning three different financing activities. A statement of offence was
issued for each of these activities in accordance with sections 597 and 637 of
the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities. Under section
645 of the same Act, this offence is a corrupt electoral practice. As a
result, the accused will not be able to exercise her election rights,
including that of voting in a municipal election or a municipal referendum and
that of sitting on the council of a municipality, for a period of five years.
On June 10, 2008, Ms. Lambert entered a guilty plea with the Chief
Electoral Officer for each of the three offences in question. She paid three
fines of $2,000 each, plus expenses.
