Legal Action by the Chief Electoral Officer Pursuant to the Election Act - A Guilty Plea is Entered

    QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of
Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to inform the public that a guilty plea
has been entered in a case concerning a violation of the Election Act.
    The offence occurred around February 24, 2007, during the period when
advertising was forbidden before the general election of March 26, 2007.
Mr Dominique Janelle illegally caused the publication of an ad related to the
election in the Première Edition newspaper of February 24, 2007. Mr Janelle
thus violated section 429 of the Election Act and committed the offence
outlined in section 564 of the Act.
    On July 3, 2007, Mr Janelle pleaded guilty to the charge brought against
him and paid a $500 fine, plus costs.
