Le Tour de Terra Cotta goes platinum with Desjardins Financial Security

TORONTO, June 29, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Desjardins Financial Security is proud to announce that it will be the Platinum Sponsor of the seventh annual Le Tour de Terra Cotta cycling tour to be held on Monday, August 1, 2011.

The Desjardins Financial Security Le Tour de Terra Cotta cycling event, set in the picturesque Caledon hills of southern Ontario, features a challenging course with a full road closure, no-yellow-line rule. Up to 800 individual riders of all ages will flock to the hamlet of Terra Cotta from across Canada and the U.S. to participate in race events like the 2K Youth Time Trial or the 104K Signature 12 Lap Race at speeds of up to 80kph. The loop through the hamlet of Terra Cotta is a fan favourite and a cyclists dream, emulating the experience of a prestigious European road race. Added to this year's line-up is a 52K option, along with the regular 9K and 26K youth races and the 26K short-course adult event designed for resolute amateurs and those wishing to ride a shorter distance.

The day will start with four events culminating in the signature race, the largest non-O-Cup road race in Ontario providing elite licensed riders with a 104K challenge. For the first time in the history of the event, the large field of professional cyclists will compete in this mass-start race for the second largest cash purse for a road race in Canada offering $1000 top individual prize, male and female equivalents in each age category.

Desjardins encourages the growth of the sport of cycling in Canada and every year Le Tour de Terra Cotta attracts more new riders than any other race event. "We're proud supporters of this event because we're cycling enthusiasts," said Gil McGowan, Regional Vice President of Group Retirement Savings at Desjardins Financial Security. "We're also passionate about family events like this one that promote healthy lifestyles for all Canadians."

Le Tour de Terra Cotta will provide mechanical and medical support, full road closure, race kits filled with swag, technical T-shirts for early registrants, escort vehicles and a well-stocked feed station. Spectators will be wowed by a vendor area, concession stand, spectator draws, kid's fun zone and a licensed patio. All adult riders will enjoy a "Grown in Peel" local barbecue lunch prepared by the Enbridge Gas Community Events team.

Returning this year is Dimpflmeier Bakery as Gold Sponsor and the new 2011 Silver Sponsor is James Dick Construction Limited. On-line registration is now available at www.ontariocycling.org. Space is limited and local area road closures are in effect on race day. Further information, including exciting details on prize payouts, technical guide, event distances and times is available at www.letourdeterracotta.com.
