LCBO stores raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada

TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - Starting May 1st 2009, the general public can
make donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada at any of the 605 LCBO stores
throughout Ontario. Donation boxes will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters
until May 31st 2009.
Your support allows Muscular Dystrophy Canada to continue in its mission
to eliminate neuromuscular disorders and make life richer and more rewarding
for Canadians affected by it. There are over 4,000 people in Ontario both
children and adult, registered with Muscular Dystrophy Canada. As a result of
increased awareness of Muscular Dystrophy Canada and neuromuscular disorders,
the number of people registering with Muscular Dystrophy Canada is increasing.
Corporate donations from companies such as the LCBO are crucial in Muscular
Dystrophy Canada's success in continuing to provide our programs and services
for Canadians who need it. For more information, please visit the Muscular
Dystrophy Canada website at
"Muscular Dystrophy Canada is thrilled to be a part of the 2009 donation
box program. This could not come at a more opportune time, we are continuing
to receive more requests for support than ever," says Marg Otter, Ontario
Services Director. "We would like to thank the LCBO, its employees, and
customers for providing us with this wonderful opportunity."
"We are pleased to partner with Muscular Dystrophy Canada," says LCBO
President and CEO Bob Peter. "LCBO's customers have always responded
generously to worthy causes, and we appreciate whatever they can give to help
their fellow Ontarians."
Muscular Dystrophy Canada is one of 26 provincial and numerous local
charities that will benefit from the LCBO's province-wide donation box program
in 2009. Last year, $1.3 million was raised through LCBO's in-store donation
box program. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario
government, which totaled $1.345 billion in fiscal 2007-08, excluding taxes,
support a wide range of important government programs, services, and
priorities including health care and education.
Muscular Dystrophy Canada thanks the public for its support when shopping
at their local LCBO store during the month of May.
