Law-enforcement agencies from across Canada are joining forces to combat bank note counterfeiting

    OTTAWA, Aug. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - From coast to coast, law-enforcement
agencies are collectively renewing their commitment to bring bank note
counterfeiters to justice by launching a national campaign called "Counterfeit
money - it's criminal."
This joint national initiative between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,
the Ontario Provincial Police, the Sûreté du Québec, the Canadian Association
of Chiefs of Police, and the Bank of Canada will significantly help police
forces to deter counterfeiting and to assist retailers in protecting
themselves against fake bank notes. Police officers across the country will
now have access to innovative tools in their fight against the production and
distribution of counterfeit currency. They will also be better equipped to
swiftly recover suspected counterfeits at the point of sale, and to help
retailers recognize counterfeit bank notes.
"The deterrence of bank note counterfeiting helps prevent Canadians, and
particularly retailers, from incurring financial losses and potentially losing
faith in our country's paper currency," said Peter Cuthbert, Executive
Director of the CACP. "As police forces are becoming increasingly aware of its
detrimental impact, they are more determined than ever to combat this harmful
criminal activity."
Canadian bank notes have security features that are quick and easy to use
but difficult to counterfeit. For more information on Canadian bank notes and
